Increasing STC in Existing Walls -
Using Barrier Composite Material

1. GOOD

On existing wall, install 2" x 2" strapping. Press fit 2-3 lb density fiberglass between strap. Install BM-1C barrier on strapping with decoupler foam side out. Use staples or board headed nails. Do not overset the fastner- Set  deep enough to compress foam layer without cutting barrier.  Install 1 or 2 layers of drywall over barrier. All joints and seams in  the barrier material and drywall should be positioned positioned  in the middle of a strap. Note: Cut drywall full size for minimal  gaps on all sides. Seal with a permanently flexible acoustic caulk.

2. BEST

Erect new steel or wood in front of existing wall so that 1/4" to 1/2" space is developed between back of stud and existing wall. Press fit 2" - 4" of fiberglass between studs.
Install BM-1C barrier and drywall as in example 1.
